Great for small hands and growing minds, im very happy with this tablet!
I recommended this to all my friends and family for their littles first tablets. We signed up for all the apps that show up during the set up process because it suggests amazing apps for the kids for books, games and educational stuff as well. Also I love the parental controls their easy to find. Thus tablet is easy to navigate, quick to charge up and lasts all day and even a couple days after (even with the apps running in the background) I don't always catch as soon as the kids put it down or I don't remember to charge it so the battery is full when they wanna play on it, thankfully it's fast charging friendly for impatient children.
Our son has dropped it 1 time (I have to get a case for it) but it didn't chip, scratch or break from an accidental drop on wood floors.
This truly is an amazing first tablet for the kiddos (I searched for days comparing tablets and this tablet I'm soo very happy I went with this one)
I'm even thinking of getting either this one or the bigger screen one for me and my hubby. Great price, arrived when they said it would be here.
- The tablet came with the tablet user ID and the Amazon store set to my Amazon ID. The WiFi was configured to match my Amazon Echo.
- The tablet comes with a charger and mini USB cable.
- The tablet is easy to hold. It is quite light and the case is a bit rough making it easy to grip. An area on the back gets quite warm but that really isn't a problem.
- In general, the tablet is responsive. It scrolls smoothly and apps open quickly. Downloads are slow, howevero.
- The screen is good enough. It would be nice to have more contrast for videos but its acceptable. Likewise, fine text is legible but the low resolution is noticeable.
- The sound is also good enough. It is loud enough in a quiet room but you might want ear buds in a noisy environment. Voices are clear but there is no bass so music sounds tinny.
- NetFlix, YouTube, and Spotify all run without problems.
- I found the Kindle ebook reader uncomfortable to use until I set the page colour to sepia. Then it was fine.
- Personally, I am a big fan of 7 inch tablets. They are comfortable to hold and slip into a pant or jacket pocket.
So, what are the negatives?
- In theory, you are restricted to the Amazon app store which is pretty limited but from my research there are "unofficial" options to install the Google Play Store, sideload apps, and root the tablet
- Although the tablet is smooth to use, you can sense that it is running full out.
I wouldn't plan on using it for more than a media player. (I didn't try any games and can't comment on its performance for that).
- I might be wrong, but the screen feels like plastic to me.
The only downside is the layout of the device. I don’t like how all the apps are clustered. It’s not well organized. Even after clicking another layout option. He is younger so see all of those apps that were already on the devise from Amazon is overwhelming for me so I know it is for him. You have to search through 20 or more pre-downloaded apps just to get to the ones you personally downloaded. Also, the YouTube application is different than the ones you’d use on another tablet or phone. It’s more so the web version opposed to the app version. Normally before he’d be able to swipe up while on full screen to see recommended videos and choose from there. But with this one you have to click out the video and scroll from the side to see what to watch next. Also it doesn’t display a search bar the entire time so if you want to click out of a video and search another you cannot. You have to go all the way back to the very first video and search again or go to the YouTube homepage.
The battery life is decent. I could charge it all night for him and he could use it for a couple hours throughout the day and it will need charging again. The touch screen is a good touchscreen just sometimes it doesn’t touch when you want it to and you have to try again.
Most of the complaints are minor but I hope it helps someone figure out if it’s something you can manage with.
Overall it’s a great starter tablet. I recommend it to anyone who needs it for minor things. Or a child.
