I Heart Me: The Science of Self-Love Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 708 ratings

Do you truly love yourself?

How much love do you have for yourself? Not the narcissistic 'Aren't I wonderful' kind of love, but the essential regard for self that empowers you and helps you navigate through life. The type of love that enables you to feel safe and secure in who you are and inspires you to make choices that are good for your authentic self.

When scientist David Hamilton realized that his own lack of self-love was sabotaging him in hundreds of subtle ways and more than a handful of major ways, he devised an experiment using himself as the guinea pig. For more than a year David studied the latest research into brain chemistry, neuroscience, and psychotherapeutic and personal development techniques. He realized that self-love was as much about biology as psychology - that self-worth is in our genes, but trained out of us. The biological drive to seek connection with others often leads us to try to be 'someone else' to win love and approval. But the brain can be reprogrammed, and David devised 27 powerful exercises that he tested on himself and presents in the book to help you:

· Increase your own level of self-worth

· Connect powerfully with your authentic self

· Attain a greater sense of happiness and general wellbeing

· Create stronger and more real connections with others

I hope no money was taken from my account for this item, as I did not purchase it. It's not my style—it's too cheap—looking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Feeling the Love

I have a deep and infinite respect for David's work and have appreciated everything that he has wrote. Saying that, this book is exceptional.

When I found out that David was writing this book I was truly excited. For years I have been saying that self-love is the key to everything, and on a deep journey of practicing it myself and helping others do the same. There are many books that tell us to love ourselves, but I never really found one with the science to understand what is going on in my body when I make that choice.

The journey into self-love is a deep one, and David encourages the reader that it is a journey and not an overnight achievement. For me, it is something that I choose to do every moment, and this book actually helps people who don't have a road map for self-love to make that choice for themselves.

The vulnerability that David shows around his own challenges of self-love, mean that he meets the reader exactly where they are.

Even though I have been on the journey of self-love for a number of years, there were still plenty of gems in this book for me, and it is helping me have an even deeper journey with loving myself. It is for a beginner and a more seasoned practitioner in the art of self-love.

Where ever you are on this journey, committing to self-love is the single most important thing you can do for yourself, and this book is a great resource that will show you why you have not been loving yourself to your fullest potential, and how you can.

Well written and deeply touching, it is a must for anyone on this journey. It is also the book you could buy as a gift, that would help to spread the love even more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Put This At the Top of Your Self-Help Reading List

With so many self-help books out there, how do you know which one to choose? Put David Hamilton's I <3 Me at the top of your list. I watched some of his YouTube videos while waiting for my book to arrive. I could literally and figuratively hear his voice with its lilting Scottish accent as I read his book beckoning me toward a path of self-love. He provides the reader with intimate details of his own journey from doubt, lack of self-confidence and self-esteem to self-love. There are activities to use to practice rewiring the brain. The analogy of strengthening self-love muscles to other muscles by framing the activities as gym activities is brilliant. The section on body image strongly resonated with me and I was able to make a shift in my beliefs and behaviors about my appearance which I will continue to practice. David is more than a self-help "guru"; he is a scientist with a passion for others to discover the Truth of who we are. He uses dry humor and his experience in the pharmaceutical industry to help us understand how easy it is for us to get stuck in a world of self-doubt and a lack of confidence and brings compassion, kindness and love to fill our hearts, minds and souls so we can transform by reading and practicing the activities in I <3 Me.

Dr. Hamiltons advice for dealing with fear was especially meaningful for me. I get terribly nervous when speaking in public. He offers a better thought process to deal with our insecurities. I will definitely be trying his meditations. Thank you for another wonderful book.

I adore the simplicity of such complex concepts. I am taken with the honesty and humour of the author's admissions. I think it takes a mature, sophisticated person to talk about their vulnerability. It engages the reader. I have an avid interest as a former stress therapist in books that talk directly to all of us. I will, and am , raving about this book to everyone. Dr. Hamilton speaks to me directly as a daughter who lost her loving, giving, enchanting mother who died too early because she forgot to "heart " herself. Practical, scientific, funny and engaging.... please read!
