Best anthology I’ve read in a long time…

Ok, so this anthology is totally worth it. I read it with KU, but if you don’t have KU whatever the cost it’s good because I’ve read many anthologies and only read one or two stories, well so far I’ve read 6 of these and definitely plan to go back and read the rest.

Sincerely, Dane by Ilsa Madden-Mills was super sweet and fun. It has side characters from Dear Ava in it, but I hadn’t read that book and I was still able to follow along with the story easily. It was quick and fun.

Office hours by Alessandra Torre was hot as all get out, professor and student, and it’s essentially just steam but great steam lol

Stray by Jessica Hawkins was angsty AF and packed a punch for being a novella. Kind of sad it was only a short story, could have definitely read that plot as a full length novel. It was crazy well written and so so good.

The Lexi Ryan story was so good. It’s another short and sweet read, but I love the overall message of it. “You shouldn’t settle for someone who doesn’t make your heart race,” 🥰 love that.

The Shelby by Jewel E. Ann - Literally what in the heck 😂 that was a bit of a mindblower, but in the very best way. Quick but definitely packed that Jewel E. Ann punch with the quickness.

Breaking The Rules by Charleigh Rose was super sh cute. Sort of texting pals who have never seen each other. Clearly that leads to some fun and hot text sessions and then maybe an interesting meet up or not, you’ll have to read and see!

So all the stories I read were great. Quick, but honestly it was perfect because I’ve been in a weird reading mood lately and all of these were so quick that I stayed invested and just truly loved the stories.

Half a month later...
I am ditching this. 🤯🔫
Not even the stories from authors I thought to be safe are working.
It could be my fault though since I hardly have enough time to read and my chaotic life is really messing with my concentration. 🤷‍♀️
Just can't take this anymore.
Sorry, book.

so. i think u needed to be familiar to some of the authors work to enjoy their novellas, but my dumbass didnt know that starting this so i read em all. though even when i realized it, i tried to enjoy all of the novellas too coz im not one to waste anything. but anyways

tequila mate : lost interest on chap 1 coz i didnt get shit

always cake : im a sucker for friends to lovers trope. if u hate the ‘ive been pining for you for a decade but never done anything bout it till the book started’ thing, then u’ll prob hate this. it was short, i enjoyed it for what it is

confessions : mehhhhhhh

head over heels in love : boringg

second summer : sure theres age gap, but theres also bdsm and insta love, so a no from me

protected: skimmed

the vanished: skipped

the shelby : one of the better one

’Dr. Abigail Lund retired after Senator Thatcher’s surgery, shocking the medical world. She said she’d accomplished all she’d set out to do in her career. It’s been reported that she bought a five-million-dollar yacht named The Shelby. She was last spotted near Costa Rica, married to Hennrick Allen, a local.’

it was good

sunshine rae : a solid cliche right person wrong time been pining for years friends to lovers story. eh not anything new

from friends to this : another friends who lost their virginities to each other, but started their relationship in the start of the novella. super meh

the kiss : i thought his playboy pact was stupid but i liked leo. a first in my journey through this anthology. not planning to read their full story tho, coz i just know itd ruin my view of him. a short novella with glimpses of him is perfect

stone heart : this one’s a pnr story bout a cursed gargoyle who cant feel love & a shaman(?) who has trust issues coz everyone’ll fall in love w her from mere touch. except for the gargoyle. until he trapped a demon so he became a human idfk how the world in this story works

without yesterday : boyfriend’s bestfriend trope. psuedo cheating

good girl gone back : set on scarlett-dante's world bout scar’s friend. not good

of potions and poisons: about a character from of beast and beauty. boring

falling for my stepbrother :

stray :

breaking the rules:

a home for hobgoblins: characters from the author’s series

when fire strikes: nothin special

armageddon, again : characters from a series

strike one: characters from a series. there were only 3 chaps and they fucked in half of them. no jose

office hours : a student teacher one. nothing special but not horrible either

pineapple : another yet again been pining for u for years friends to lovers story. with vampires

sincerely, dane : if u wanted a novella bout dane & piper from dear ava, here u go. me personally, i barely remember a thing from that book except for the wonderful ending

dark eyes : characters from here. i skipped

what if: h was ab to get married but 2 days before the wedding her first love came to her claiming he loves her, so she chose him. (to be fair a fortune teller basically told her to, 2 days before. good thing the girl was superstitious)

when it happens : insta love without the chemistry

fuck : its tijan. its as u expected

the dress: fav one

THE DRESS- COLLEEN HOOVER

This one's a collection of 30 short stories from 30 different authors, each starting with: "TWO MORE DAYS until it happens."
There are multiple genres: YA contemporary, YA fantasy, rom-com, women's fiction, paranormal, contemporary romance, romantic suspense.

I actually read them all... don't know why but it became a project for me. 😜

My ratings/impressions:
DNF
😖 Tequila Mate | Katie Ashley (contemporary romance) - hated the writing
😖 Always Cake | Max Monroe (rom-com) - best friends to lovers, boring
Second Summer | Laurelin Paige (contemporary romance) - one night stand, boring
😖 Armageddon, Again | Aileen Erin (end of the world fantasy) - couldn't get into it

1 star
😖 Stray | Jessica Hawkins (contemporary romance) - cheating, domination, smut
😖 Falling for my Stepbrother | Kelsie Stelting (contemporary YA romance) - hated the trope
😖 Of Potions and Poison | Chanda Hahn (fantasy/historical) - insta-love, poor execution
😖 Office Hours | Alessandra Torre (erotica) - taboo college student/teacher erotica, full of cliché

2 stars
😐 The Vanished | Jennifer Wilson (YA suspense paranormal) - ghost can return to life for 2 days every year for unfinished business; the setup was confusing
😐 Strike One | Meagan Brandy (sports romance) - steamy one night stand with best friend's little sister on her 18th birthday; very average
😐 Pineapple | Leia Stone (paranormal contemporary) - vampire royalty and human feeder fall in love but he must marry a vampire; they have a one night stand and then he's a jerk but redeems himself at the end; didn't like it

3 stars
🙂 Protected by Dr. Rebecca Sharp (romantic suspense) - daughter of mobster in WITSEC falls for protecting cop
🙂 Sunshine Rae | Kandi Steiner (contemporary romance) - very angsty best friends to lovers that never got together due to wrong timing; now he's supposed to get married but they share a kiss and he leaves his fiancée for her
🙂 From Friends To This | Dominique Laura (contemporary romance) - 2 best friends that lost touch reunite for their 10th year highschool reunion; writing was ok but I didn't fall in love with the couple
🙂 Stone Heart | S.J. West (paranormal) - shamans, gargoyles and other creatures; interesting concept
🙂 Breaking the Rules | Charleigh Rose (contemporary romance) - penpals friends to lovers, good writing, fun banter; they start texting by mistake, they stop due to a misunderstanding, he figures out who she is but doesn't tell her until after he sleeps with her
🙂 When Fire Strikes | Marni Mann (first responder romance) - short story following Terry (first responder) and Rose (Alix's friend from When Ashes Fall); too romantic and insta-lovey
🙂 What If... | K. Bromberg (contemporary romance) - emotional, best friend comes back to stop her from marrying the wrong guy but he doesn't justify why he left her in the first place

4 stars

This review is for The Dress by Colleen Hoover.

4.5/5 stars

Colleen Hoover is my favorite author. I will read anything that she writes. So I was so excited to get to read this new short story.

Every story in this anthology starts with the same line TWO MORE DAYS until it happens.

The narrator is 29 year old Jessica (1st person POV). She is hoping/expecting to get engaged. The other two characters are her boyfriend Chase (a fitness instructor). And her neighbor/co-worker Jay.

I really enjoyed this story. My only complaint is that it was too short. We were definitely spoiled by the length of Saint (in last year's anthology).

This story is only 23 pages. But Coho packs a lot into this short story. It was fun and I felt like I really got to know the 3 main characters quite well.

The story focuses a lot on fitness/health/weight gain. But in a very relatable way to many women.

There was also one really crazy/amazing/unexpected thing that happened. And I feel like that added so much to the story.

Overall, I really enjoyed The Dress and I can't wait to read more of the stories in this anthology!

My 1st admission is I went into this completely blind, I had no idea what to expect from this anthology except that every story had the same 1st line and each author had their own creative way with it.

Let me take a step back and praface with I'm usually not into romance, it makes my eyes roll out of my head. sometimes I'm surprised and an author does it really well, but usually? um no

My 2nd admission is that I skipped through 3 stories, maybe 4? because out of 30 at least 75% of them were about the same exact thing... "I love my best friend but I'm afraid to tell them or they're about to get married" blah blah blah. There was a point I almost DNF the entire thing.

Now the good news... there are some genuinely good short stories here. Yes, they may be the minority but they carry the anthology out of the "I just wasted 20 hours of me life" zone. And I'll admit, there were a select few romances that played out really well. Plus, Colleen Hoover really pulled it out in the end. Solid finish, Colleen!

Sincerely Dane by Ilsa Madden-Mills

I was SO excited for this one! And it was such a sweet, adorable, and sexy little short. Piper and Dane are from an all time favorite, Dear Ava- the bestie of Ava and Knox’s twin brother, respectively of course. And, per usual, we have that delightful IMM quirky flair- thanks to a rogue text, a scavenger hunt, and the cast of the three little pigs and red riding hood. Ah yes- two more days until Halloween. This has swoony friends to lovers vibes, and is just a delight to watch Piper and Dane give into their feelings. Dane is addictively charming, and Piper is a bit adorkable and super spunky. The chemistry is super fun, and this one had me sighing and smiling.

So... it really didn’t feel like I read 940 pages, as the stories were really easy to read and some of them were too short for my liking. I’m the kind of person who craves for details. But anyway, I knew I couldn’t expect a lot of details considering that this was an anthology. To be honest, I read it just because I wanted to read something new written by Colleen. 🙈

I was so excited to review Sincerely Dane by Ilsa Madden Mills. This short story packed a powerful punch as it had everything we love from Mills and her stories: heart, humor, sizzling tension and a fantastic story. I love that this story was a complete standalone but followed some of the characters from Dear Ava years later. I loved every word of this novella and seriously wanted more! Bravo! 4 stars! ~Ratula

I will add to this as I read more stories from this anthology.

To start:

Sunshine Rae by Kandi Steiner:
Awww Kandi packed a punch in these pages. Angst + Banter + Heart = Sunshine Perfection 💛

Dark Eyes by Karina Halle:
For me it was fun to get background on Amethyst's introduction to Absolon, Wolf, & Ezra. I met Amethyst in Black Sunshine. It was atmospheric and does have me wanting more of that world.

The Dress by Colleen Hoover:
I loved getting this from Colleen. It was the perfect combination of heart, humor, and something more that I won't say as it would take away from the experience of the read 🖤

Solo leí The Dress por Colleen Hoover

This is an anthology of 30 different short stories. Every author was given the same starting line: "Two more days until it happens", but each author has written their own story. These stories were mostly romantically inclined. I enjoyed reading this because it was easy reading, and it was nice having one short story after another, which didn't demand too much concentration from me. Read this if you are looking for chick lit, easy reading, with pretty much any trope you can think of.

I am glad to have finally read this anothology. Some of the books in this one were absolute one while the others not so much, then there were also a few which had me rolling my eyes and seriously questioning what is wrong with this world. I enjoyed the book as a whole however for the most part and it was a good way to find more authors I'd find myself on the same wavelength with. My individual ratings for each short story is added below which gave this book an average ratinf og 3.5 from me.

I love these kinds of books because we get to know new to us authors and check em out.
I see some just buy these for their author so they can read that, but I'm the one who reads em all unless it's in third person, then I need to pass.
What these all had was the best friend is/was the crush and that kind of became a bit obvious and not all that fun.. But not all of them had that!

Tequila mate by Katie Ashley
I really liked this one from the start, it made me giddy and swoony to read.

Always Cake by Max Monroe
I totally freaked as well when Evelyne mentioned Cameron Diaz and Julia Roberts!
But when I was the chapters I knew there was no way..

Confessions by Mora Richardson
This was a little bit weird, because we don't know the cause of Arlo to just snap. But I'm glad Finn could see past it all. Would've loved to see the reactions of the parents, but on the otherside then it would be too depressing and long probably.

Heels over head in love by Willow Aster
This was so funny and sweet!

Second Summer by Laurelin Paige
This was a little datingfiasco with Chloe from The dating... For me this was weird to read, because I know Chloe her ending soo..

Protected By Dr Rebecca sharp
I WILL NEVER READ ANYTHING BY THIS AUTHOR SINCE IT'S BEEN KNOWN SHE DOES PLAGRIATISM.

The Vanished by Jennifer Wilson
Not in first person pov.

The Shelby by Jewell E. Ann
Wooow the fun part of this one was to see the woman get revenge for herself.
But on the other side, he didn't actually lied to her.. But I would be very pissed as well.

Sunshine Rae by Kandi Steiner
I felt so bad for Rae and Melody, it could've all been avoided when they sooner admitted their feelings.

From friends to this by Dominique Laura
Fast paced and best friends to less contact friends to lovers.

The Kiss by M. Robinson
I really laughed out loud with this one, even though I didn't read the original book this bonus was very funny!

Stone Heart by S.J. West
It was so hard to get into and then it was over. Paranormal.

Without Yesterday by Lexi Ryan
This one was good as well even though I found her reasoning to stay together very wrong! It always hurts to break up, but when there are no feelings you can't keep the other on the line. Every one deserves to find their one true love.

Good girls gone bad by R.K. Lilley
I think this one could be my favorite from them. At least till so far. It was sweet, hot and swoony!

Of potions and poisons by Chanda Hanh
Wow this was a bit of a suspense! I really liked it and that it was actually pretty sweet.

Breaking the rules by Charleigh Rose
It was fun, I loved the texting. I don't know why but that always makes me smile.

Stray by Jessica Hawkins
It Involved cheating and that's a hard no no for me...

A home for Hobgoblins by Eric R. Asher
Not in first person pov.

Falling for my stepbrother by Elsie Stelting
Very fun actually, also very sweet!

When fire strikes by Marni Mann
This was very to the point, spot on, fast but sweet and hot.

Armageddon, Again by Aileen Erin
Not a romance and I'm not intrigued enough to read more..

Strike one by Meagan Brandy
Hot hot hot..

Office hours by Allesandra Torre
Hot and dirty.

Pineapple by Leia Stone
This had something really sweet although it had vampires as well.

Sincerley, Dane by Ilsa Madden Mills
It was good.

Dark Eyes by Karina Halle
I'm actually intrigued enough to search more about them here on Goodreads.
update * bought the Wolf book*

What if... By K. Bromberg
This one was kind of like the others..

When it happens by Micalea Smeltzer
That was fun, but also kind of like we read before, but stil fun.

F*ck by Tijan
Swooning by "F*ck's sakes" that had me smiling like a loon.

The dress by Colleen Hoover
What a horrible person that was, it isn't love if you can't accept the person for who he/she is.

I don’t even know how to put into words what I just read.
Finally we have our Dane, And It’s better than what I could ever wish for.
It’s the real definition of short but intense.
There’s also a reference to the revenge pact that I’m sure you’ll love.

Sincerely, Dane by Ilsa Madden-Mills

4 stars!

Sincerely, Dane is a sweet little treat that gives us more of Piper and Dane who we met in Dear Ava . They have been friends for ages and have never crossed the line to being more but a scavenger hunt during Halloween may give them the push they need to take a chance.

It’s sweet and funny and I felt Piper and Dane's friendship. Their chemistry is palpable and I believed their attraction and how they didn’t quite know how to be honest about it what they we both feeling. When they open it, it’s a “finally” moment and I loved it. I wouldn’t have minded it being longer or even a full-length novel. You can definitely read it as a standalone but I loved it's connection to Dear Ava which I absolutely adored.

Office Hours by Alessandra Torre

4 stars!

Office Hours is a forbidden student/teacher treat that really brings on the heat and I devoured it. Laney needs to reschedule her exam since she is supposed to be on a plane out of town during the scheduled test time. Her first attempt to change it via email was a big fail so she decides to meet with her teacher in person.Laney knows exactly what she is doing when she goes to Mr. Miller’s office hours. This time she won’t take no for an answer.

This short is seriously steamy. It sets the stage, gives us the buildup we want, and then brings on all the heat. I’m so glad we get both POVs because I loved getting in Mr. Miller’s head after Laney sets the stage with her attraction. It made this taboo read more entertaining since we also know how he feels.

And that ending! Such a great set up for more *hint hint.* Whether it stays a short story or becomes a full length novel, one thing is for sure - these two are on fire

The Shelby
by Jewel E Ann

4 stars!

Wow. I had no idea what I was getting into when I started this novella. It is different from what I usually read but I loved it nonetheless.

I don’t even want to tell you what it is about because it would ruin it. I will say that I was sucked into the story from the start and was eager to see where it was going. And I had no idea what was coming. It’s twisted and entertaining but I wouldn’t change a thing. And can I just say I love the ending! It’s perfect for this short!!

What If…
by K. Bromberg

4 stars!

Shyloh is about to marry the man of her dreams in four days and everything seems to be on track until a fortune teller puts a bug in her head. She brushes it off at first but then realizes her life might not be the one she wants when she is faced with a big “what if.”

I really enjoyed this quick read. It sets the scene for what could be an amazing second chance romance if this ends up being the start to a full-length novel.

There is second guessing when past collides with present and I loved Shyloh and Jake's relationship.  It's strong and never-ending even as years pass and it made me so warm inside. I loved it and would love more to their story.

4 stars!

Oh my goodness, what an adorable short. This novella is a friends-to-lovers romance that gave me exactly what I didn’t know I needed. I was hooked on Emily and Austin and they stole my heart.

The premise is basically like “My Best Friend’s Wedding”. Emily and Austin have been best friends forever, and they share the same birthday and always celebrate together. On their 21st birthday they made a pact that if they weren’t in a relationship by the time they are 35 then they would marry each other.

Their 35th birthday is fast approaching and Emily has to face the truth: she’s in love with Austin and needs to tell him now.

This story is so sweet and swoony, and also so much fun! It gave us lots of feels and history between Emily and Austin even though it’s a quick read. I was actually nervous leading up to their birthday. It’s amazing that I could be so invested after such a short time but I was and I loved it!!

I would love this show too be turned into a full-length novel. I’m dying for all of the details that Emily touched on and more. Such a fun read!

So far I’ve only read Sincerely Dane by Ilsa Madden Mills.

I love that this is a crossover between two of Ilsa’s worlds! I kind of wish that it had been longer. Dane deserved that. We loved him in Dear Ava and hoped he’d get his own book.

I hope it’ll happen one day. I mean friends to lovers who have been in love with each other for a while. Think of all the longing, angsty goodness we’d get if we got the story told throughout the years of their friendship. It would be an epic book.

But anyway this shortie was fun; i loved their little adventure halloween night. It was super cute; i love these two’s friendship. And it had a super sweet ending but it will definitely leave you wanting more.

This review is based on Ilsa Madsen Mills contribution to this anthology titled "Sincerely Dane."

If you follow my reviews, than you know Ilsa's publication of "Dear Ava" back in 2020 held (and still holds) such a special place in my heart. Everything about it was perfection, so when we were told this anthology was going to contain Knox's twin brother, Dane, I couldn't wait!! And what a ride it was!

Dane and Piper have such a cute, friends to lovers story, and it seems that time is finally on their side to explore their feelings for one another, and I swear I had the biggest smile on my face the entire time I was reading this. This little snippet alone is worth buying the entire book!

Plus there's some truly amazing authors in this anthology, so you should all go one click now!

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions!**

Review of Sincerely Dane by Ilsa Madden-Mills

What a witty, sexy and swoony short story from Ilsa Madden-Mills. Piper and her best friend Dane goes on a treasure hunt for the chance of entering an exclusive Halloween party. And while having fun with friends and attacking crazy challenges, they finally accept their true emotions. Dane is someone who will steal your heart in an instant. A bit c0cky, a whole lot of sweet and undoubtedly charming. Piper is sassy and adorably nerdy. The author made me feel their chemistry and emotional connection very deeply in few chapters and I wished this to be longer!

A sweet short story that makes you want the long version.

Dane, Knox’s brother from Dear Ava, is newly single. He’s had his eye on Piper for awhile. They’ve been great friends but he’s ready to blur the lines.

He has his chance to make his move when he invites Piper on a scavenger hunt. Fun memorable moments ensue. It’s the perfect opportunity to lay his heart on the line.

An interesting premise with a great couple. I enjoyed this short story which I am hoping is the beginning of a beautiful romance.

“Two more days …….”

I loved One More Step the first Anthology but this one hits different, I freaking loved it. There’s LOTS of romance, Insta love, revenge plotting, age gap, affairs, best friend love story’s, heartbreak, teacher student seduction and a runaway bride. So many of these short story’s have brought me new authors and a longer TBR.

While this book is huge yet was surprisingly easy to get though. I love that the proceeds of this book go to charity and cannot want to get my hands on a physical copy one day.
